Chief St. Onge has served on the Mackinac Island Fire Department since 1989.  Appointed as a cadet in 1989, promoted to Firefighter in 1992, promoted to Sergeant 2002, promoted to Lt. In 2010, promoted to Assistant Chief in 2011, and Appointed as Chief of Mackinac Island FD in 2017.

Jason was born and raised on Mackinac Island. He has a Bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan '98, and a Master's Degree in Public Administration from CMU '18. He is also certified as Fire Officer 2, and Haz-Mat Operations. Jason took his EMT course while still in high school and at one point was one of the youngest EMTs in the state. Since becoming Chief, he has helped reduce the Island ISO rating from a 5 to a 4. He helped raise the FD membership from 17 to 39 Members. He was also Chief of Department while concurrently celebrating his 3Oth year of service and the MIFD's 200th anniversary.
