Dearborn Fire Department
Mike Mattern is a 14-year veteran of the Dearborn Fire Department.  He is also a member of the Dearborn Fire Departments Technical Rescue Team as well as the Wayne County Hazardous Materials team.  Since its inception, Mike has also been part of the Dearborn Fire Peer Support Team.  He is currently trained in IAFF Peer Support, Critical Incident Stress Management for Individuals and Groups in Crisis, QPR ( Suicide prevention and intervention) as well as mental health first aid.  He and the Dearborn Fire Peer Support Team are part of the Hegira Health First Responder Initiative for mental health. During his time on the team, he has conducted mental health training for his department as well as cadets in the fire academy, responded to call-outs to departments in southeast Michigan, and helped other departments start their own peer support teams.   He also took part in the Michigan Fire Service Emotional Health Summit in Lansing this January to help start to shape goals and policies for firefighter mental health and peer support in the State of Michigan.
